This semester is kind of crazy. Even though there hasn’t been that much change within our student council, things are marching on a lot stronger than before. One of the things we brought up even before the semi-annual meeting was finally getting somewhere with our backyard. The main point was mowing the lawn, but eventually it turned into so many other things. Among them was our deck and a tree house. With our huge glass front, the deck is quite important, so obviously we were going through a lot of deck and patio designs. Do we keep it plain and simple with just a bit of furniture? Get ourselves a huge tent to cover most of it? Actually build ourselves a large barbecue “station” – as in three or more racks next to each other? Well, that one was vetoed almost instantly. Too much work and way too expensive. So far, we got the furniture and the rest on the design is pretty much on idle. Recently we were debating on building a tree house though – started off as a joke. Now, in my opinion that’s a perfect opportunity to revisit the idea of a coherent design for the patio. Combine it with a tree house (at least medium sized) and you got yourself a nice place to hang out at. The backyard has already seen it’s fair share of visitors on those few fantastic days heralding summer, but there could be so much more. So, if I manage to convince the others to free some funds for the tree house, I bet the rest of the backyard, and especially the deck will bloom!

The problem was compounded when these restaurants served “margaritas” that were primarily frozen limeade with cheap tequila. Tasty, but hardly authentically Mexican.
Tex-Mex Rules
In fact, the primary problem was one of labeling. To be more accurate, the “Mexican” restaurants should have been called “Tex-Mex” restaurants. They served a spicy, delicious fusion cuisine developed near the border — mostly by Anglo cooks in south Texas – that soon became popular worldwide.
